Ford will recall around 89,000 2012 Ford Escape SUV’s and 2013 Ford Fusion cars which are equipped with 1.6-liter four-cylinder engines over a risk of fire. More than 80,000 vehicles affected by the recall are in the United States.
Ford did not warn drivers to stop driving their vehicles immediately, but urged them to get in touch with dealers immediately to arrange loaner vehicles.
The fire risk is attributed to the possibility of the engine overheating, causing fluid leaks that could result in contact with the vehicle’s hot exhaust system which could trigger a fire.
Manufacturers are working on developing a fix that will prevent fluids from reaching hot exhaust components and will notify owners as soon as a solution has been reached.
No injuries have been reported yet, but Ford has received 13 reports of overheating resulting in fires when the affected vehicles were in operation.
This recall is the fourth safety recall of the 2013 Ford Escape.
